19 lawmakers of the Imo state House of Assembly on Monday morning impeached the Speaker of the House, Hon. Paul Emeziem.

During the mild drama that ensued at plenary, Monday, six lawmakers led by the suspended Deputy Speaker, Amara Iwuanyanwu invaded the house, barricading Emeziem, other Assembly staff, lawmakers and their aides from gaining entrance.

During the brief session, Iwuanyanwu, alongside 18 other lawmakers signed a resolution to impeach the speaker.

Member representing Ọrụ East State constituency, Hon. Chigozie Nwaneri, in his debate accused the speaker of desecrating the Assembly among other impeachable offenses.

Following the resolution, Kennedy Ibeh of Obowo State Constituency was elected as the new speaker.

This development is coming few days after Emeziem announced the impeachment of Iwuanyanwu as the Deputy speaker over an undisclosed reason.
