Tension has escalated at the University of Lagos following revelations that two notable professors have been admitted at the Intensive Care Unit(ICU) of the institution over Covid-19 related illness.

The New Diplomat checks reveal that the two designated professors (names withheld) attended a wedding party in Ikoyi, Lagos State where they may have contracted the deadly virus.

Investigation further shows that Professor Durojaiye Ajelayemi and Professor Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe  who have since caved in the ravaging virus may have contracted Covid-19 at the said Ikoyi, Lagos party.

Some reports indicated that Ibidapo-Obe was  the chairman of the wedding party. These four professors, including the two now said to be in ICU are feared to have contracted the Covid-19 at the said Ikoyi party.  This has expectedly thrown up panic among many who reportedly attended the said party.

This news is coming shortly after UNILAG lost two prominent professors associated with the institution, ( Ajelayemi and Ibidapo-Obe ) to covid-19 related complications.

Curiously, another UNILAG lecturer, Professor Oyelowo Oyewo is reported to have contracted Covid-19. Oyewo is a law lecturer and incumbent attorney-general of Oyo state.

Some digital newspapers broke the news in the early hours of thursday that Oyewo tested positive to Coronavirus.

The New Diplomat checks reveal that this latest news has thrown the University community into a state of apprehension as staff are seen discussing the subject matter with anxiety and pain.

It would be recalled that until their demise, both Ajelayemi and Ibidapo-Obe were  lecturer and former administrator at UNILAG, respectively. The two great academics lost their lives to Covid-19 related complications.

Ajelayemi died at age 73 while Ibidapo-Obe caved in the covid-19 at age 71. Interestingly,  both professors hailed from Ibokun, Osun State. While Ajelayemi who died on Wednesday, January 6, was Dean of Faculty of Education, Ibidapo-Obe  was a former Vice Chancellor (VC) of UNILAG. He became the Vice Chancellor in 2000 and he occupied the position until 2007.
