Popular Afrobeat star, Damini Ogulu, aka Burna Boy has fled the country days after his involvement in incident that led to a shooting spree which occurred at Club Cubana in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The development comes as Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Baba had directed the Lagos State Police Command to investigate theĀ  shooting incident involving the police escorts attached to Burna Boy.

The artiste came under fire after reports emerged that one of his escorts shot at two men at the Club Cubana in Lagos.

The incident was said to have occurred on Wednesday, June 8. It was learnt that the singer was in the VIP section with three women when he spotted another woman and asked one of his escorts identified as Ibrahim to invite her to his table.

However, the lady’s husband was said to have gotten furious over the musician’s advances at his wife. Afterwards, Burna Boy reportedly made fresh moves. It was at this point the matter degenerated to a major altercation as Burna boy’s police guards shot at the lady’s husband identified as Irebami Lawrence and Tolu, his friend.

Following the incident, it was learnt that Burna Boy and his crew immediately left the club and drove off to one of his properties at the Elegushi end of the Lekki-Epe Expressway before leaving for Lekki Phase 1, from where they eventually stormed the airport and jetted out of the country for Spain.

A source who spoke with the members of the press said Burna Boy did not inform anyone before leaving the country. The source said Burna Boy might have left the country to douse the tension surrounding the incident.

ā€œAware of what he had done, Burna Boy took the next flight out without even informing the policemen. He only made a video call to them to inform them that he had travelled to Spain. All his police escorts have been arrested and are currently at the Command headquarters,ā€ the source was quoted to have said.

While the motive of Burna Boy’s exit from the country remains sketchy, checks revealed that the artiste might have performed at musical concert in Barcelona, Spain.

It was gathered that he performed at the Primavera Sound Festival which held in Barcelona, on Friday, June 10, two days after the shooting incident.

Meanwhile, the IGP has ordered a probe of the incident, tasking the Lagos state police command to forward the report of the investigation as urgent as possible.

This was confirmed in a series of tweets made by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, on Sunday.

The tweet, titled ā€œRe: Club shooting in Lagosā€, read, ā€œThe police personnel alleged and identified in the shooting incident at Club Cubana in Victoria Island, Lagos, on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, have been taken into custody and are being investigated for their involvement in the incident.

ā€œThe Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, who describes the circumstances surrounding the incident as unbelievable, has however condemned, in the strongest terms, the unfortunate incident.

ā€œConsequently, the IGP has directed the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Abiodun Alabi, to carry out a thorough investigation into the matter and forward his report as urgent as possible for further action.ā€
