Bayern Munich have confirmed the arrival of Julian Nagelsmann as their new head coach to resume in July.

Nagelsmann joins the Bundesliga champions from RB Leipzig after expressing his desire to end his contract prematurely.

According to reports, Bayern agreed to pay €25m (including bonuses) for the 33-year-old making him the most expensive head coach in football history.

Nagelsmann reportedly grew up supporting the Bavarian side and has signed a five-year deal and will start his new role on July 1.

Bayern have also confirmed the departure of current head coach Hansi Flick after finalising an exit package.

The 55-year-old initially replaced Niko Kovač on an interim basis in November 2019, before securing the role on a permanent basis six months later.

“The past two years will be unforgettable for me,” he reiterated via the club’s official website. “I really enjoyed the emotions, the victories, the titles, but also the daily work on the pitch – it was an outstanding time.

“Success can only be achieved together! A coach is nothing without his team and I was lucky enough to meet fantastic players here in Munich and a team of coaches who did an incredible job.

“One downer remains: We weren’t able to celebrate the greatest successes during this time with the fans. I’ve missed you in every game.

“I wish the FC Bayern family the very best for the future. It is not an empty phrase when I say: It was a very great honour for me.”

He secured a famous treble during the 2019/20 season before announcing his desire to leave this summer amid reported boardroom tension.

Flick is now expected to succeed Joachim Löw as head coach of the German national team.
