107 days after the despicable murder of Deborah Samuel, a female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, the state police command has confirmed that they are yet to arrest prime suspects in the case.

The spokesman for the Sokoto Command, DSP Sanusi Abubakar said operatives were still in search of the killers of Deborah, who was recently honoured by the United States Department of State, while marking the US International Day Commemorating the Victims of Violence Based on Religion or Belief, on August 22.

Abubakar disclosed that those initially arrested after the murder were the suspects arrested for fuelling the tension that led to the murder of Deborah.

He however assured that the police have sent out the pictures of the prime suspects, adding that in no distant time, they will be arrested and tried accordingly.

“Those ones we arrested then, though not the suspected killers, contributed to the violent riot and were arraigned in court where the judge ordered that they should be remanded. Concerning those suspected killers, we have circulated their pictures to media houses and sent our intelligence to every part of the state.

“We are still on the lookout for them and we are confident of arresting them wherever they may be hiding. We will flush them out and arraign them before a competent court of law,” Abubakar was quoted to have said.

It would be recalled that Deborah was beaten and set ablaze by her colleagues. The students, believed to be Muslim faithfuls were said to be enraged over alleged blasphemous language used by Deborah on their WhatsApp group chat.
