Senator Okey Ezea, representing Enugu North Senatorial District, has reportedly passed away while receiving medical treatment in the United Kingdom, according to early reports. No further details on the circumstances of his death have been made available.

Ezea, a member of the Labour Party, was the only remaining National Assembly lawmaker from Enugu State. Reports indicate that he had previously sought medical attention in Germany.

The news of his passing was first shared on social media by popular on-air personality ‘Senator’ Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, who wrote: “Sad News. Senator Okey Ezea, representing Enugu North, is dead… Rest in Peace.”

Born on August 11, 1963, in Enugu State, Ezea studied Political Science at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and later earned LL.B and LL.M degrees in Law from the University of Lagos. He began his career with the Nigerian Customs Service before venturing into business, founding Ideke Shipping Limited and several other companies.

Ezea’s political career included a gubernatorial run in Enugu State in 2007 and 2011, co-founding the All Progressives Congress in Enugu, and serving as Chairman of the Federal Medical Center, Jalingo. He was elected Senator in February 2023.

His death has already sparked reactions across social media, with colleagues, constituents, and followers expressing shock and condolences.
