President Muhammadu Buhari, on Wednesday mourned the passing of doyen of diplomacy and Nigeria’s former Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Blessing Akporode Clark.

The president in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, described the exit of Amb. B.A Clark as a great loss to Nigeria and its diplomatic circle.

Early Wednesday, The New Diplomat broke the news of B.A Clark’s shocking death, throwing the kith and kin in the global diplomatic circles into deep mourning.

The late Clark who breathed his last at the age of 92 years was among the early Nigerian Diplomats who helped the country formulate its Foreign Policy after gaining independence.

Reacting to the demise, Buhari in the statement said the loss of B.A Clark would be felt ‘far and near.’

The president also extended his heartfelt condolences to the friends and family members of the deceased, praying that God give them the fortitude to bear the loss.

The statement reads, “President Muhammadu Buhari mourns Ambassador Blessing Akporode Clark, who passed on Wednesday at the age of 92.

“President Buhari describes the former Nigerian Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations as one of the country’s best and brightest of career diplomats.

“Every moment of his life,he dedicated to the nation,” says the President. “He was a visionary and an outstanding statesman who left behind indelible impressions on the hearts and minds of people across the nation & in many parts of the world. His loss will be felt near and far.

“The President joins family, friends and the government and people of Delta State in mourning a great Nigerian.

“May his soul rest in peace,” he prays.
