A number of top political appointees in Edo State have resigned to contest in the 2027 general elections, following a directive from Governor Monday Okpebholo.
The Washington Osifo, Commissioner for Water Resources and Sanitation, submitted his resignation to pursue a seat in the Uhunmwode/Orhionmwon federal constituency, currently held by Hon. Billy Osawaru.
Other notable resignations include Plus Alile, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, who plans to contest the Egor/Ikpoba-Okha federal constituency seat.
Two board members also stepped down: Osaze Igbinovia of the Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission and Terry Igiebor of the Edo State Audit Commission.
Okpebholo had earlier instructed political appointees and civil servants to resign by March 1 if they intended to run for elective office in 2027, a move aimed at ensuring a level playing field for all aspirants.
