The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially issued a travel advisory for Nigerians residing in Iran and neighboring Gulf states over Middle East tensions.
The warning follows a series of military strikes launched by the United States and Israel against targets within the Islamic Republic of Iran early Saturday morning, February 28, 2026.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the situation remains “evolving and volatile,” prompting an immediate call for all Nigerian nationals in the region to prioritize their safety.
A statement signed by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, urged Nigerians residing in or visiting the affected areas to maintain a high state of alertness.
“All Nigerians in Iran and affected Gulf countries are advised to remain extremely vigilant and conscious of their surroundings at all times,” the statement reads.
“Avoid areas known to be strategic, military, or government installations, as these could be potential flashpoints.”

The ministry also strongly recommended that Nigerians restrict non-essential movement and travel within the affected countries until the security situation becomes clearer and stabilises.

The ministry advised Nigerians to strictly comply with all security and safety directives issued by local authorities in their countries of residence. It said cooperation with local law enforcement remains paramount for personal safety.
Citizens were also urged to stay informed through reliable international and local news sources while being cautious of misinformation.

The statement added that the Nigerian embassy in Tehran and missions in neighbouring Gulf countries including Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia, are on high alert to provide consular assistance and facilitate communication.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to assess the situation and provide further updates as necessary,” the government said.
“We wish to assure the general public that the safety and well-being of Nigerian citizens abroad remains the top priority of the Federal Government.”
