Nigerians on social media have condemned an alleged act of police brutality against Nollywood actor and comedian Kehinde Ganiyu, popularly known as Ijoba Lande.

According to multiple posts on X, the actor was reportedly assaulted by police officers who allegedly seized his iPhone 16 Pro Max and $1,200 from his brother.

A video of the actor circulating on social media shows him with bruises on his face, while struggling to speak.

One user, MayGist (@MayGistv), wrote: “Actor and comedian, Kehinde Ganiyu, popularly known as Ijoba Lande, was assaulted by the Nigerian police, and almost ki!!ed him. They allegedly collected his iPhone 16 Pro Max and $1,200 from his brother.”

Another user, The Caveman (@The_Caveman01), said: “Actor Ijoba Lande alleges police ass@ult, th+ft of iPhone 16 Pro Max and $1,200 from brother. Bad leadership affects everyone, whether in Nigeria or in the diaspora. Nigeria can happen to anyone.”

Ismaeel (@Banjy47) added: “It’s a sad reality when coming home becomes a nightmare. Ijoba Lande just returned from the UK only to be allegedly robbed of his phone and $1,200 by the very people meant to protect him. Nigeria shouldn’t be a place we fear. Police, do the needful. We need a force that protects, not one that preys on its citizens.”

Adelaf (@adelaf4me) highlighted the context of the actor’s travel: “From fry pan to fire. Since Ijoba Lande had issues with his wife he took out time to travel abroad. On his return, he claimed that police stopped him, beat him, and seized his iPhone.”

Another user, DsL_a ʚїɞ (@_DeejustDee), expressed concern over the severity of the alleged assault: “You see how they almost blinded Ijoba Lande’s eye. Police brutality is one of the greatest crimes against citizens of this country. If he relocates and never comes back, some people will say ‘ile labo simi oko’ but when the ‘ile’ wants to kpai you, nko?”

The alleged incident has sparked renewed discussions online about police misconduct and the safety of citizens returning from the diaspora. No official statement has yet been issued by the Nigeria Police Force regarding the claims.
