A 12-second video clip has ignited a storm of reactions across social media, after showing a man dressed in traditional white Hausa attire stepping out of a black SUV in what appeared to be a governor-like convoy and relieving himself by the roadside.
The footage, shared by Kaduna politician Hon. Nuhu Sada, captured the moment on a busy northern Nigerian street. Police motorcycles and vehicles resembling an official escort were seen in the background, fueling speculation that the man could be a sitting governor.
But beyond the initial shock, the clip has triggered a broader conversation, one that cuts across leadership, public decency, and Nigeria’s long-standing sanitation challenges.
Hon. Sada, who posted the video on X (formerly Twitter), struck a sympathetic tone. “Even a governor can have an accident anyone could! No teasing,” he wrote, describing the scene as heartbreaking. He added that while the situation may look embarrassing, moments of urgency can happen to anyone.
His perspective was echoed by some users who cautioned against harsh judgment. An X user, Deep Space (@fa_____ni), argued that holding public office does not strip a person of basic human needs. “Because he’s a governor doesn’t make him a superhero. Taking a quick pee doesn’t make him less of a person. Many factors could influence his actions. There are better topics to discuss than someone ‘peeing,’” the user wrote.
Others, however, were less forgiving.
“What a shameful sight, this should be an impeachable offense,” wrote IKHANTIPS (@ikhantips), reflecting the outrage expressed by some Nigerians who felt the act – if truly committed by a governor – diminished the dignity of public office.
Another user, felloh (@ngughii), reacted in disbelief: “A whole governor urinating on the roadside? Only in Nigeria.”
Yet skepticism also trailed the viral clip. Ozor Ndi Ozor (@OzorNdiOzor) questioned whether the man in the footage was indeed a state governor. “Nigerian politicians are a reflection of the Nigerian people. I find it hard to believe this is a governor,” the user wrote.
Observers have pointed out the absence of clear security protocols typically associated with sitting governors, noting that no official confirmation has come from any state government.
