United States President Donald Trump has threatened legal action against Trevor Noah, host of the 68th Grammy Awards, following the comedian’s remarks linking Trump to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The controversy erupted during the awards show after Noah congratulated Billie Eilish for winning Song of the Year for her track Wildflower. He then quipped, “Wow. That’s a Grammy that every artist wants, almost as much as Trump wants Greenland,” alluding to the president’s prior threats to acquire the Arctic territory.
Noah followed with a sharper jab: “Which makes sense because, since Epstein’s gone, he needs a new island to hang out with Bill Clinton.”
Trump, who has faced scrutiny over his past associations with Epstein, reacted angrily on his social media platform, Truth Social, calling the Grammys “the WORST and virtually unwatchable.” He denied ever visiting Epstein’s island and dismissed Noah’s comments as “false and defamatory.”
“I can’t speak for Bill, but I have never been to Epstein Island, nor anywhere close, and until tonight’s false and defamatory statement, have never been accused of being there, not even by the Fake News Media,” Trump said. He then branded Noah a “total loser” and vowed legal retaliation.
“I’ll be sending my lawyers to sue this poor, pathetic, talentless dope of an M.C. … Get ready, Noah, I’m going to have some fun with you!” he added.
Noah, a South African comedian who is stepping down after six years as Grammy host, has generally avoided political commentary in past broadcasts.
Trump’s threat comes amid ongoing legal and public scrutiny of his ties to Epstein. The president has previously tried to block the release of thousands of documents detailing Epstein’s network and interactions with powerful figures.
Last Friday, over three million documents were released, mentioning several high-profile individuals, including Trump, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Bill Clinton, and former Prince Andrew. These documents have renewed media focus on Epstein’s connections and Trump’s prior social circles in Florida and New York.
