President Bola Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power, pending confirmation by the Senate.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the nomination is aimed at strengthening ongoing reforms in the electricity sector, improving grid reliability and attracting long-term investment.
The nomination has already been forwarded to the Senate for screening and confirmation.
Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, is a seasoned economist and fiscal policy expert with over 30 years of experience spanning both the public and private sectors.
He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he was involved in governance reforms, fiscal policy design and institutional restructuring across several African economies.
He currently serves as Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, where he coordinates bilateral cooperation and development initiatives between Nigeria and China.
The Presidency noted that Tegbe also has prior experience in the power sector, including engagements with regulatory and commercial institutions such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.
“The President expects the Minister-Designate, upon confirmation, to bring his extensive expertise to bear to advance critical reforms and deliver improved outcomes for Nigerians in the power sector,” the statement said.
The nomination follows the resignation of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective political office.
