President Bola Tinubu on Sunday departed Lagos for Europe as part of his end-of-year break, ahead of an official visit to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, where he is scheduled to participate in a major global sustainability summit.
The President is expected to attend the 2026 edition of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) Summit, following an invitation from the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The summit is billed to hold in early January.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency said the weeklong event brings together leaders from government, business and civil society to shape global conversations on sustainable development.
The 2026 summit will be held under the theme ‘The Nexus of Next: All Systems Go’, with a focus on linking innovation, finance and people to drive sustainable growth and chart the next phase of global development.
According to the statement, Tinubu will return to Nigeria after the conclusion of the summit.
The trip comes days after the President arrived in Lagos to spend the end-of-year holidays, following official visits to Borno and Bauchi states. Tinubu had earlier embarked on a three-state tour from Abuja, during which he visited Borno State and commissioned projects executed by the Babagana Zulum-led administration in collaboration with the Federal Government.
On his arrival in Lagos, Tinubu was received at the presidential wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, top government officials and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
