President Bola Tinubu on Sunday night arrived in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, to participate in the 2026 edition of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), which begins on Monday.
According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu’s aircraft landed at the Presidential Wing of Zayed International Airport at about 11:30 pm local time.
He was received by the UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Shakhboot Nahyan Al Nahyan; the UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, Salem Saeed Al-Shamsi; Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar; as well as officials of the Nigerian diplomatic mission in Abu Dhabi.
Senior Nigerian government officials, including the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu; the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Muhammed Muhammed, later joined in welcoming the President at his hotel, the statement added.
Tinubu arrived in Abu Dhabi from Europe, where he spent part of his end-of-year break and held high-level engagements with Rwandan President Paul Kagame and French President Emmanuel Macron.
The 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, themed “The Nexus of Next, All Systems Go,” is a global platform that convenes world leaders, policymakers, investors and experts to advance discussions on sustainable development, climate action, energy transition and inclusive economic growth.
The visit highlights Nigeria’s increasing participation in global sustainability initiatives and further deepens diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates.
Meanwhile, The New Diplomat had earlier reported that Tinubu had returned to Nigeria after spending about two weeks in Europe. The report followed a Facebook post by the President’s son, Seyi Tinubu, who shared a photograph of the President disembarking from the presidential jet with the caption: “A warm welcome home to you, Mr President.”
