Tragedy has struck the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State with the sudden death of Karamo Yesiro, the party’s Assistant Publicity Secretary. Yesiro passed away just a day after being re-elected at the state congress held at Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, Onikan.
In a statement, APC Publicity Secretary Seye Oladejo described Yesiro’s death as “a painful and tragic loss to our great party at a time when his energy, commitment, and passion for progressive politics were most needed.”
Oladejo added: “Having just been entrusted with the responsibility of serving in the State Executive Council, he embodied dedication, loyalty, and an unwavering belief in the ideals of our party.
Though his tenure was tragically cut short, his enthusiasm, humility, and readiness to serve left a lasting impression on colleagues and members alike. He was a vibrant party man whose contributions to the growth and stability of the APC in Lagos State will not be forgotten.”
He extended condolences on behalf of the Lagos APC leadership and membership to Yesiro’s family, political associates, friends, and supporters. “We pray that Almighty God grants his family the strength to bear this irreparable loss and grants his soul eternal rest. The Lagos APC stands united in mourning this painful departure. Hon. Karamo Yesiro will be remembered for his service, commitment, and belief in the progressive cause,” Oladejo said.
The shocking death comes months after a series of fatalities among female local government officials in Lagos, raising concerns about the welfare of public officeholders. Between August and September 2025, five female councillors died within two months of their inauguration on July 27, 2025.
The deceased officials include: Oluwakemi Rufai (Ibeju Lekki): died August 13, 2025, 17 days after inauguration; Zainab Shotayo (Odiolowo-Ojuwoye): died August 18, 2025, 22 days after inauguration; Princess Oluremi Nutayi Ajose (Badagry West): died September 20, 2025, 55 days after inauguration; Basirat Oluwakemi Mayabikan (Somolu): died September 21, 2025, 56 days after inauguration and Adebimpe Akintola (Coker Aguda): council manager who died September 29, 2025
Most of the deaths were reportedly due to illness, but the rapid succession of fatalities caused shock and widespread concern across Lagos State’s local government system and the ruling APC. The incidents have led to calls for greater attention to the health and welfare of female politicians in the state.
