Members of the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have elected a former Deputy Governor of the state, Moses Alake Adeyemo, as the new chairman of the party, signaling a fresh leadership phase ahead of future political contests.

Adeyemo emerged chairman during the party’s 2026 State Congress held on Tuesday at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Oke-Ado, Ibadan, amid the presence of party stakeholders, delegates and representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who monitored the exercise.

The congress, conducted in line with the party’s national guidelines, also produced other members of the state executive council tasked with repositioning the party and strengthening its internal structure across the state.

Adeyemo, who served as deputy governor under the immediate past governor of Oyo State, the late Abiola Ajimobi, between 2011 and 2019, hails from the Oke-Ogun geopolitical zone. Party leaders described his emergence as a strategic move aimed at promoting inclusiveness and consolidating grassroots support ahead of forthcoming political activities.

Also elected at the congress was Wasiu Olawale Sadare, who retained his position as the party’s Publicity Secretary. Dr. Taofeek Lamidi emerged as Deputy Chairman, while Hon. Lukman Owonikoko was announced as the State Secretary alongside other executive members.

The congress attracted prominent APC stakeholders and leaders from across the state, including Senator Teslim Folarin, and other party faithful and delegates.

Officials sent from the party’s national secretariat in Abuja supervised the exercise to ensure compliance with laid-down procedures and transparency in the electoral process.

Speaking at the event, party leaders stressed the need for unity and reconciliation within the APC, urging members to close ranks and work collectively toward rebuilding the party’s strength in the state.

They charged the newly elected executives to prioritise internal cohesion, effective mobilisation of members, and strategic engagement with the electorate as the party prepares for future elections.

Stakeholders expressed optimism that the new leadership would revitalise the party’s structures at ward and local government levels while expanding its political reach across the state.

The peaceful conduct of the congress was widely commended by party members, who described the exercise as orderly and reflective of democratic values within the party.

In his acceptance remarks, Adeyemo pledged to run an inclusive administration that would accommodate all tendencies within the APC, promising to focus on unity, discipline and grassroots mobilisation.

He assured members that the new executive would work assiduously to reposition the party as a formidable political force in Oyo State.
