Former Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has marked the seventh anniversary of his narrow escape from a helicopter crash, describing his survival and that of 11 others as a testament to “divine mercy and grace.”

The incident, which occurred on February 2, 2019, sent shockwaves across the nation during the height of the general election campaign season. Seven years later, the former Vice President took to social media to share a message of gratitude, reflecting on the day the AgustaWestland AW139 helicopter went down in Kabba, Kogi State.

On that fateful Saturday, Osinbajo was on a “Next Level” campaign tour, heading to engage with supporters in Kogi State. As the helicopter attempted to land at the Kabba Township Stadium, it was engulfed in a “brownout”—a dangerous cloud of dust stirred up by the rotors that blinded the pilots.

The ex-Vice President made a remembrance and thankful post on his official Instagram page on Monday, giving thanks to God for making him survive the helicopter crash.

He wrote, “You have been faithful. More than just faithful. From my cradle days. Till this very hour. And I know you will. You will be with me. Till the very end

“Ubangiji (Sovereign God). Yesu (Jesus). Nabaka godiya (I give You thanks). Sarkin duniya (The King of all the Earth). Nagode (Thank You). Are there grateful people in this house. Lift your hands and bless Him,” he added.

Remembering how everyone was saved in the crash without a single scrape, he wrote, “God of my journey, I remember how You saved us. I remember how you brought us out.”

“7 years ago, you carried every one of us out of that helicopter crash without a single scrape. Not one life lost. Not one wound left behind. Only mercy. Only grace.”, he added.

“Lord, we are deeply grateful. We give You all the glory, all the honor, and all the adoration. NAGODE!!!”

In the same vein, Dolapo, the wife of the ex-Vice President, also took to her Instagram page on Monday to remember the incident and thank God for grace.

She wrote, “Remembering the helicopter crash of 2nd February 2019.

“I give praise and thanks to God for His great deliverance.

“Psalm 104:1b. O Lord my God, You are very great!!”, she added.
