Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuenyi’s hope of retiring to the Senate at the completion of his second term has been dashed as the Labour Party, LP candidate, Okechukwu Ezra defeated him flat at the Enugu North Senatorial District.

The Returning Officer to the election, Professor Chukwuemeka Ubaka who declared the Labour Party winner at the collation centre of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in Nsukka local government area headquarters today, Monday at about 5.20am, said the LP polled a total votes of 104,492 to defeat Governor Ugwuenyi of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP who came second with a total votes of 49,948.

The All Progressives Congress, APC Ejike Eze for the district garner 6,816 to come distant third.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Ubaka said that Mr. Ezea was declared winner because he justified all the requirements of the law, having secured the highest number of votes in the election.
