The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has concluded its governorship primary election, electing Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola as the party’s candidate for the upcoming August 8, 2026, gubernatorial election.
The primary, held in Osogbo on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, proceeded despite an internal crisis and the formal resignation of one of the aspirants, current Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Adedamola, popularly known as FRYO, secured a victory, polling 919 votes out of the 957 accredited ballots cast by delegates.
Humphrey Abba, chairman of the electoral committee, announced the result following the conclusion of the election.
”Void votes 20. We told you earlier that one of the aspirants withdrew,” the chairman said.
“The candidate that got the remaining votes is Adebayo Adedamola with 919 votes and stands elected and returned.”
On his part, Sunday Solarin, secretary of the electoral committee, said that although Adeleke announced his resignation from the party, the timing was too late to effect any correction on the ballot.
According to him, the governor announced his resignation on Monday night when the ballot had already been prepared, and it was too late to begin producing a fresh one.
“There were two aspirants vying for the PDP ticket, but one of them, Governor Ademola Adeleke, resigned from the party late on Monday, and we couldn’t amend the ballot,” he said.
“So, as you prepare to cast your vote, bear in mind that only Adebayo Adedamola remains the PDP aspirant, as his opponent has resigned from the party.”
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had fixed August 8, 2026, for the Osun governorship election.
