The Muslim World League (MWL) has strongly condemned what it described as “ongoing treacherous and indiscriminate Iranian aggression” against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and countries in the region.
In a statement released on Tuesday from Makkah, the global Islamic organisation said the actions attributed to Iran constitute a grave violation of religious teachings, international law and principles of good neighbourliness.
The statement, issued by the MWL General Secretariat in apparent response to strikes on United States military bases in the region amid the ongoing regional tensions, quoted the Secretary-General, Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, as denouncing what he termed “blatant Iranian aggression” against peaceful neighbouring states.
Al-Issa, who also chairs the Organization of Muslim Scholars, described the alleged attacks as acts of “terrorism and corruption on earth,” asserting that they breach international and humanitarian norms as well as bilateral agreements.
He further alleged that the actions deliberately target civilians and civilian infrastructure, spreading fear among innocent people, particularly during the holy month.
Speaking on behalf of the MWL’s councils, bodies and global assemblies, Al-Issa commended what he described as the “wise handling” of the escalation by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and other affected Arab states.
According to the statement, the organisation expressed support for efforts by Saudi Arabia and its regional partners to safeguard their territories and citizens, maintain security and stability, and prevent a broader conflict in the region.
