King Charles III, Britain’s monarch, has expressed “deepest concern” following the arrest of his brother, Prince Andrew, amid allegations of misconduct in public office. The King emphasized that the matter must be investigated fully and fairly by the appropriate authorities.
Prince Andrew, also known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, was arrested earlier on Thursday at the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk and remains in custody on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
In a statement released by Buckingham Palace on Thursday under “Royal Communications,” King Charles said: “I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office. What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities. In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation.”
The King underscored the importance of due process, noting: “Let me state clearly: the law must take its course. As this process continues, it would not be right for me to comment further on this matter. Meanwhile, my family and I will continue in our duty and service to you all.” The statement was signed “Charles R.”
This marks the first time King Charles has publicly addressed the ongoing situation involving his younger brother in his own words.
Royal correspondent Chris Ship noted on X that William, Prince of Wales, and Catherine, Princess of Wales, “fully support the statement William’s father issued this morning.”
