President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that insecurity across the country will soon be brought under control, revealing that Nigeria is receiving support from international partners to confront terrorism, banditry and other violent threats.
The President gave the assurance in his 2026 Easter message to Nigerians on Friday, where he also called for unity, patience and support for ongoing reforms aimed at stabilising the economy and strengthening national security.
Tinubu acknowledged that despite the efforts of security agencies and his administration, Nigeria continues to face serious security challenges. However, he said decisive steps are being taken to defeat criminal elements threatening the country’s peace.
“Despite the good efforts of the administration and the gallant efforts of our men and women of the Armed Forces who leave behind their families to confront the evil actors in our land, challenges to our security have remained,” Tinubu said.
“However, my administration continues to make resources available and forge foreign partnerships to enable us to deal decisive blows to the agents of terror and banditry.”
The President noted that Nigeria is already receiving assistance from outside the country as part of efforts to strengthen the fight against insecurity.
“We have also sought and are receiving assistance from outside our shores,” he added.
Tinubu referenced his recent visit to Plateau State, where he met with residents following deadly attacks in parts of the state.
“On Thursday, I was in Jos to commiserate with the people of Plateau State, share in their grief and offer reassurances of better days to come,” he said.
According to the President, security chiefs have assured him that ongoing operations are yielding progress in tackling violent attacks across the country.
While acknowledging the hardship many Nigerians are currently facing, Tinubu said the significance of Easter – marked by sacrifice, resilience and hope – reflects the nation’s present journey through economic and security challenges.
“For us in Nigeria, the essence resonates with our current realities as we navigate a period marked by economic strain and security challenges, even as determined efforts are underway to address them,” he said.
The President emphasised that unity and national cooperation remain critical to restoring peace and stability.
“No nation can thrive where fear prevails, and no progress can be sustained without peace,” he said.
He urged Nigerians to support lawful authorities and work together in protecting their communities.
“I therefore call upon all citizens to support lawful efforts, be our brothers’ keeper, and reject all forces that threaten our collective well-being,” he said.
Tinubu also defended the economic reforms introduced by his administration, acknowledging that they have placed pressure on many Nigerians but insisting they are necessary for long-term prosperity.
“The ongoing reforms, though demanding in their immediate impact, have been carefully put together and backed by a strong commitment to take us to a shared prosperity,” he said.
“As I have often said, true transformation cannot be achieved without sacrifice, and history affirms that enduring progress is often forged in moments such as these.”
Looking ahead to the country’s next electoral cycle, the President called on political actors and parties to conduct themselves responsibly and in accordance with the Electoral Act.
“Let our choices be guided by a shared commitment to peace, continuity, stability and the long-term good of our country,” he said.
“Democracy flourishes where responsibility, restraint and informed participation prevail.”
Tinubu expressed optimism that the country’s economic direction is beginning to yield results, noting that key indicators suggest Nigeria is on the right path.
“Even as present conditions still put pressure on many of our people, economic indicators show we are making the right choices. A new dawn is on the horizon,” he said.
He thanked Nigerians for their continued support and urged them to remain hopeful about the country’s future.
“I enjoin you to keep the faith and never cease to contribute to the progress and greater future we seek,” Tinubu said.
