  • Commends Gov. Okowa, Okpe Monarch For Support

By John Oghojafor

Three years as a representative of the people, and one year on the leadership seat of the Delta State House of Assembly, the people of Okpe Constituency have every reasons to thank God for exalting their son, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori as the most acceptable representative and Speaker of the legislative arm of government in the state.

Rt. Hon. Oborevwori who represents Okpe State Constituency in the House of Assembly was elected the Speaker of the 6th Assembly in May 11, 2017 even as a first-timer, a record which many believed was divine. Not many gave him a chance of success, no, not in such a dynamic and vibrant Delta State House of Assembly. But, like someone who contested the primary of the House of Assembly against the Speaker three years ago remarked, “Sheriff has surprised us.”

Reminiscing on the plethora of projects which the Governor Okowa-led government has executed in Okpe Local Government Area via constituency projects and other special projects including those which are ongoing, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Oborevwori cited the numerous completed and ongoing road projects in the area, the ultra-modern Orerokpe market, several classrooms projects completed and others ongoing in different parts of the state including over 200 youths who have been trained in different skill acquisition programmes among others which are the major components of the SMART agenda of Gov. Okowa government.

The Speaker also disclosed that he has been paying monthly stipends to some leaders in the Constituency since he was elected to the House of Assembly just as he expressed deep appreciation to the governor for his unwavering interest in the development of Okpe Local Government as well as the Okpe monarch, HRM Orhue I, Orodje of Okpe kingdom and various leaders in the area.

And to cap it all up today, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori unveiled an empowerment programme that is worth more than a N100 million which he doled out to his constituents at the Delta State Trade Fair Complex, Osubi, Okpe LGA.

The venue was filled to capacity with Okpe people with their leaders from the ten wards of the area all dressed in assorted PDP attires seated in great expectation on whose lap the largesse will fall on.  Four Toyota Camry cars, twenty mini-buses, twenty tricycles, forty units of hairdressing machines coupled with power generating sets, several grinding machines and generating sets among others. But that is not all!  Rt. Hon. Oborevwori also announced his Foundation scholarship award worth N10 million to 80 percent of students of Okpe indigenes and 20 percent of non-indigene students, adding that it will take off in September, 2018.

Governor Okowa, while addressing the Okpe people during the occasion, commended the Speaker for the empowerment, adding that it was carried out in line with the PDP principle of “those who work must be compensated first”.

He noted that he was satisfied with the performance of Rt. Hon. Oborevwori as a Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, adding that he was very sure the Okpe people were also satisfied with Oborevwori as their representative.

The governor used the occasion to assure the Okpe people that age-long Oha-Orerokpe bridge project would soon be attended to, adding that he would reach out to the Commissioner for Works to find the state with the contractor.

Also speaking at the occasion, a PDP leader in Okpe Local Government Area, Sir Chief Tom Amioku thanked Rt. Hon. Oborevwori for the empowerment programme, noting he has continued to demonstrate his philanthropic disposition he has been known for over the years, pointing out that the Okpe people were satisfied with his representation.

Fielding questions from newsmen shortly after the ceremony, a notable PDP leader from the Ugbokodo axis of the Local Government Area, Comrade Andrew Agbi who contested the PDP primary with the Speaker three years ago, admitted that Oborevwori has given a good account of himself as an effective representative of the Okpe people, stressing that his achievements in so short a space of time have convinced the people.

According to Comrade Agbi, he would not hesitate to canvass for a second tenure for Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.

The highpoint of the occasion was the formal handing over of the cars and other items to the beneficiaries, which was performed by the governor himself, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa.

Those who benefited which also included some physically-challenged persons were full of joy and praises to God for using Rt. Hon. Oborevwori to empower them.

Okpe PDP leaders including Sir. Tom Amioku, Prof. Sam Oyovbaire, Chief Daniel Okoro, Chief Asini, Chief J.J. Scott, Chief Efe Uko among others were present at the occasion.
