The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially postponed the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) scheduled to hold in Morocco, moving the tournament from its original March schedule to a new July–August window.
The announcement, made on Thursday via CAF’s official website, ends weeks of speculation about the timing of the continent’s flagship women’s football competition.
According to the statement, the tournament will now run from July 25 to August 16, 2026, following consultations with FIFA and other key stakeholders involved in organising the event.
CAF explained that the rescheduling was necessary to ensure the success of WAFCON 2026 in light of “certain unforeseen circumstances.”
The statement reads: “In October 2024, CAF granted the hosting rights for the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2026 to Morocco. The tournament was initially scheduled for 17 March to 3 April 2026. After discussions between CAF, FIFA, and other partners, it was decided to reschedule the competition to 25 July – 16 August 2026 to ensure the success of this important women’s competition.”
CAF added that preparations for the tournament are ongoing and reaffirmed confidence in the event, noting that “all parties are confident that WAFCON 2026 will be a very successful competition.”
