Nigeria’s electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has fixed February 20, 2027, for the conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly elections.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, announced the timetable on Friday during a news conference in Abuja. He added that governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will follow on March 6, 2027.
The announcement comes amid concerns over delays in the passage of the amended Electoral Act currently before the National Assembly.
Earlier, on February 4, INEC indicated that it had finalised its election timetable and schedule of activities despite the pending legislative process. The commission noted that it had already submitted the schedule to lawmakers but warned that certain activities could be adjusted depending on when the amended Electoral Act is eventually enacted.
INEC maintained that preparations are ongoing to ensure a smooth electoral process in 2027, while awaiting clarity on the legal framework that will guide the elections.
