Nigerians have expressed their displeasure over the directive by the Federal Government,FG asking telecommunications operators to block all SIM cards that are not registered with the National Identity Numbers (NIN).

The New Diplomat earlier reported that all GSM phone subscribers whose SIM cards are not linked with their National Identification Numbers (NINs) by December 30 will be disconnected from their networks.

Federal government made the announcement following a meeting of com­munications sector stakeholders convened by the Minister of Com­munications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami.

Also the president’s personal assistant on New Media, Basir Ahmed, said the initiative was introduced to curtail insecurity in the country.

Nigerians have been implored to check if their sims are registered by dialing *346# which will cost (N20) to know if their sims are registered.
