..Buildings Razed In Fresh Igbide-Emede Bloody War…

Sources hinted The New Diplomat that the battle which started last night degenerated into serious confrontation as both sides in the fierce communal conflict allegedly lay claim to a parcel of land and a fishing pond around the vicinity of Emede community.

In the ensuing crisis, there was clash of gunfire. Sources hinted that men of the Nigerian Police force mobilized to the communities to restore order were shocked at the level of destruction.

On getting to the clash scene, the men of police force allegedly called for additional logistical and power-fighting support.

As at the time of filing this report, officers and soldiers of the Joint task force(JTF) from General David Ejoor Barracks, Effurun near Warri in Delta State have been mobilized by eminent sons of one of the warring communities to restore law and order to the war-torn area.

It would be recalled that the protracted war between Igbide and Emede has been on for years. Some claim it has its root in  the Emede-lgbide conflict of 1985 – 1988.

Till date, no meaningful conflict resolution mechanisms appears to have been feasible in addressing the issues involved in the perennial conflict between both communities.

One account accused the Igbide of being the aggressor in this latest conflict. However, another account argues that rather than engaging name-calling the narratives, both sides should embrace peace rather than trading blames.

“Both communities should pursue peace and law and order as the basis of good communal living,” said a community member.Delta's Communities

Delta state police Public Relations Officer, Onome Umukoro  confirmed the incident to our correspondent. The Police spokesperson, however, said only two death bodies have been recovered so far.
