Mr Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, Hon Phillip Shaibu were sworn-in on Thursday as Governor and Deputy Governor of Edo State respectively for a second term in office.

The inauguration ceremony which was held at the Tennis Court of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, had in attendance 4 governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Recall Obaseki had defected to the PDP from the All Progressives Congress(APC) after he was denied the ticket for a re-election during the APC primary due to intra-party wrangling and faceoff between him and the former APC National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

Obaseki defeated the APC candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, in the September 19, 2020 governorship election, for a second term in office.

The PDP Governors at the swearing-in ceremony include Nyesom Wike of Rivers, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta and Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State.

The PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus, was also present at the inaugural event accompanied by some other party officials.

Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo was not present at the inauguration but was represented by a government official.
