Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has reacted to the dethronement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano.

The New Diplomat had reported that Sanusi, a former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, was on Monday dethroned and the Emir of Bichi and son of late Emir Ado Bayero was appointed in his place by the Kano State government.

In a letter addressed to Sanusi, Obasanjo expressed shock at the manner the economist was replaced.

According to the former President, Sanusi’s plight is good and sad at the same time.

His words: “I woke up this morning and after my morning exercise, devotion and my morning meeting with my staff, I heard the sad and good news of your removal by the Executive Council of the Kano State Government.

“It is sad because it was undeserved. It is good because you have paid the price. My prayer is that God should give you the fortitude and courage to continue on the path that you have chosen for yourself in the best interest of our country and humanity.

“Please, accept, Your Royal Highness, the assurance of my highest consideration.”

Following the dethronement, Sanusi was also banished from the ancient city of Kano by the State Government.

In a video that surfaced online, the former emir was being sent on asylum amidst tight security to Nasarawa state.

Sanusi’s removal was said to be in line with the recommendation of the Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission which summoned the Emir.
