The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Hon. Nichols Mutu, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Delta State representing Bomadi | Patani Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
Hon Nicholas Mutu who was arraigned at a Federal High Court in Abuja has been in the House of Representatives since 1999. He was arraigned on a one count charge of alleged charge involvement in about N400 million money laundering deals as well as reportedly receiving kickbacks from various contractors handling NDDC projects.
Mutu, has been involved been involved in several committees in the House of Representatives as a member and chairman respectively. He is also a former Chairman of the House Committee on NDDC. He however, pleaded not guilty to the charge, following which Justice Folashade Giwa-Ogunbanjo allowed him to remain on the administrative bail earlier granted him by the EFCC.
Prior to his election to the House of Representatives, Mutu was chairman of Bomadi Local government council between 1996 and 1997. He won his elections to the House on the platform of the PDP in Delta State.
