Ahead of the March 9 gubernatorial poll, the derisive ‘O to ge’ movement that echoed across Kwara state, rocking the Saraki’s dynasty in the process, has made a landfall in Lagos as many foot soldiers are already championing the campaign both online and offline.

Cut in the web of the ‘O to ge’ movement, a Yoruba phrase translated as ‘Enough is enough,’ it will be recalled that Senate President Bukola Saraki lost his re-election bid to the Senate during last weekend’s senatorial election alongside other candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party vying for seats at the National Assembly from the state. Also, President Muhammadu Buhari won Kwara by a landslide and a once-upon-a-time domineering dynasty was crumbled.

The attention has now shifted to Lagos and #OtogeLagos, an initiative of some activists, under the auspices of Free Lagos Orange Movement is now bent on implementing the Kwara template to remove the stranglehold of the National leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu on Lagos.

Just yesterday, Thursday, a world press conference scheduled by the movement at the Airport Hotel, Ikeja was disrupted as all hell broke loose after political thugs descended on the group leading to fracas with many injured as officials of the Nigerian Police Force started firing shots to scare away the crowd. They succeeded in stopping the briefing, citing the inability of the group to get approval to hold the event.

The police forcefully took over the premise after using tear-gas on members of the movement who had besieged the Oranmiyan Hall of the hotel for the strategic press briefing, to be followed with a rally.

Tagged: “Setting Lagos free from Bourdillon Bondage, #OtogeLagos”, the group has been appealing to residents to come out en masse to vote against the APC governorship candidate, Babajide Sanwo- Olu.

The New Diplomat learnt that the Free Lagos Orange Movement which was said to have some tribal colourations is a coalition of political parties and civil society organisations led by former President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Dr. Olisa Agbakoba. Other co-coveners include Spokesperson of Afenifere,  Yinka Odumakin and Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
