Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted he was relieved to have finally broken his goalscoring duck for Juventus.

The former Real Madrid superstar joined Juventus in one of the biggest deals of the summer but had drawn blanks in his first Serie A games against Chievo, Lazio and Parma.

However, Ronaldo ended the wait for his first goal in the second half against Sassuolo, before adding a second effort in the 65th minute.

Having been a prolific goalscorer at Real, Ronaldo revealed he carried a lot of tension into recent games, with so much expectation on him.

He told Sky Sports Italia: “I’m very happy, we started well. Sassuolo defend well, but we put in an intense performance and deserved to win.

“I really wanted to score these first goals and I’m happy to have found the net.”

Ronaldo could have finished the game with a hat-trick but missed several opportunities to extend Juve’s lead.

But the 33-year-old insisted he was not concerned with missing his mark on some occasions.

“This is football. The important thing is that the team wins. Obviously, I was a little tense with all the talk after my move from Real Madrid and not scoring, so there were a lot of expectations, but I thank my teammates for supporting me throughout.

“I knew that I was working well and it was only a matter of time. I am adapting well to Italian football.

“The Champions League is my favourite tournament. It’s a very difficult group, we know that we can do well and Juve must focus on being the best.”
