Threatened by the presumed fallout of the parallel congresses set to hold in some states today, Director General of President Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organization, Rotimi Amaechi Friday, was in a closed-door meeting with the outgoing National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, John Odigie-Oyegun in an attempt to calm strained nerves among bitter party rivals.

Ahead of the state congresses, The New Diplomat learnt party chieftains up until last night were still at loggerheads in clear supremacy battle to foist their rival factions’ executives on the party in some states.

The last minute effort to salvage the state congress notwithstanding, the tendency for crisis has been well established in Imo, Rivers, Ondo, Oyo, Cross Rivers, Anambra and Adamawa States with party stakeholders not willing to shift ground in electing parallel state executive officers.

For instance, in Delta State, the party stakeholders’ determination to forge unity between the two dissident elements it was learned, led to the postponement of the crisis day, shifting the state congress to Monday.

In another development, the rivalry in Ondo state took a different dimension inching towards an alleged felony Friday, after one of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s leading rivals, Senator Ajayi Boroffice alleged a plot to plant arms, ammunition and other illegal items in his property to silence him.

According to political pundits, it remains to be seen whether the cacophony of divisions in the party rising daily, will not affect the party’s chances of having a firm grip on the nation, as waves of defection are already tossing APC boat in different directions, necessitating the Amaechi’s meeting Odigie-Oyegun yesterday and the many of such meetings going on daily in political circles.
