The operatives of the Lagos State Task Force today impounded 120 motorcycles and arrested 10 riders plying restricted routes at 2nd Rainbow bus-stop on Oshodi–Apapa Expressway.

Speaking on the operation, the Task Force Chairman, SP Olayinka Egbeyemi disclosed that the enforcement was carried out after several warnings to motorcycle operators in the area to desist from plying the restricted routes, especially highways and bridges across the State as the stipulated by the Lagos Traffic Law.

The Chairman stated that illegal activities of these motorcycle riders/operators were on the increase as they now constitute public nuisance around 2nd rainbow on the busy Oshodi – Apapa highway.

According to him, “Some of these commercial riders harass innocent members of the public at various bus-stops on the road as well as engage in criminal acts such as dispossessing their passengers of valuable personal items.

He, therefore, implored the motorcycle riders/operators to properly screen out criminals amongst their membership and educate others to stop plying any of the restricted 375 routes which include highways and bridges across the State.

Egbeyemi also enjoined private power bike (200cc above) owners/operators, particularly corporate bodies, to warn their dispatch riders to stop engaging in illegal commercial activities as anyone caught violating any sections of the Lagos State Road Traffic Laws of 2012 would be prosecuted.
