Some suspected illegal oil transporters and their tankers were on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, handed over to the Uyo zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, for proper investigation and possible prosecution.
The 2 Brigade, Nigerian Army in Uyo the Akwa Ibom State capital, handed over three tankers, loaded with petroleum product suspected to be AGO (diesel) to the Commission.
The tankers with registration numbers: AKP 222 XA; BNS 298 XA; AKP 224 XA were each loaded with over 33,000 (thirty three thousand) litres of the said product, with no conveyance waybill accompanying them.
At the point of arrest in the early hours of Tuesday January 16, Two of the drivers absconded and only one by name Bello Ibrahim was arrested along with his motor boy Babangida Adamu, and another Godwin Etim who claimed to be a member of the community with no real ties to both the transporters and the owner of the product.
But according to the driver, Godwin Etim was the one that directed him to the waterside at Ebugu Fishing Terminal in Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, where they loaded the product before they were arrested.
The suspects will be charged to court after due investigation.
