Some Nigerian citizens have been safely escorted out of Iran by officials of the Federal Government, as tensions in the region continue to escalate.
The development was confirmed on Wednesday by the Chairman and CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa. The confirmation came through a statement issued by NiDCOM’s Director of Media, Public Relations, and Protocol, Abdur-Rahman Balogun.
Dabiri-Erewa stated that Nigerians seeking safety were guided across the Armenian border by personnel from the Nigerian Embassy in Iran.
She added that, as of now, no Nigerian has been harmed due to the conflict. Government officials remain stationed at the border to assist any citizens wishing to leave the country.
“The safety of Nigerians abroad is our top priority. Embassy staff are on the ground to ensure all who want to leave Iran are properly assisted,” Dabiri-Erewa said.
