The National Assembly has officially extended its recess, rescheduling the resumption of plenary sessions from February 24 to Thursday, March 5, 2026.

The decision, announced by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, is said to be aimed at providing legislative committees with more time to wrap up intensive defense sessions for the 2026 Appropriation Bill.

The postponement comes as lawmakers intensify their scrutiny of the 2026 budget estimates. Several Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) are still appearing before joint committees of the Senate and House of Representatives to justify their fiscal allocations.

“This postponement is to enable Committees of the Assembly to conclude ongoing budget defence sessions,” the notice reads.

“Plenary will now reconvene in both chambers on Thursday, 5th March 2026 at 11:00 a.m.

“Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members are kindly requested to take note of the new resumption date and time.

“The Leadership regrets any inconvenience the postponement may have caused.”
