President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally extended his congratulations to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, following the All Progressives Congress (APC) landslide victory in the just-concluded 2026 FCT Area Council elections.

In a statement released shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the final results, the President described the outcome as a “clear testament to the people’s trust” in the Renewed Hope agenda and Wike’s transformative leadership in the nation’s capital.

The 2026 council polls saw the APC secure five out of the six available chairmanship positions.

APC recorded victories at Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Abaji, Bwari, Kuje, and Kwali while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won in Gwagwalada.

Reacting, Tinubu noted that the victory was not merely a win for the party, but a validation of the ongoing infrastructure reforms within the FCT.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, in a statement on Sunday, said the President also congratulated the winners of the elections,

The President commended INEC, security agencies, and, other stakeholders in the election process for their participation and comportment leading to the success of the exercise.

The President urged the winners to serve with “humility, patriotism, and dedication and to view the mandate given to them by the people as a sacred trust.”

Tinubu particularly commended the FCT Minister, even though a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, for his achievements in the territory, saying it yielded political dividends to the APC.

According to Onanuga, “President Tinubu commends the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his remarkable achievements in the territory, which have yielded political dividends to the governing All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The President congratulates the APC national leadership, Kano and Rivers leaderships, and all members of the party on the victories at the polls.

“President Tinubu lauds the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and voters for the peaceful and successful conduct of the elections.

“He further commends the courage and discipline displayed by all the contestants, stating that democracy is enriched with the vibrancy of participation and competition.”

While affirming that the successful conduct of the elections further strengthens democratic culture and institutions, President Tinubu called on “INEC to continue improving its efforts to deliver even more exemplary electoral processes.”
