Nigeria’s headline inflation rate declined to 15.10 per cent in January 2026, down slightly from the 15.15 per cent recorded in December 2025, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The latest figure was disclosed in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) report released by the agency on Monday. The 0.05 percentage point drop indicates a marginal easing in price pressures at the start of the year, extending the trend of gradual moderation in inflation.

On a year-on-year basis, the slowdown is more pronounced. The January 2026 inflation rate of 15.10 per cent represents a sharp decline of 12.51 percentage points compared to the 27.61 per cent recorded in January 2025.

The data suggest that inflationary pressures have continued to soften after months of volatility, offering cautious optimism for households and businesses grappling with high living costs.

Further details from the CPI breakdown are expected.
