Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has publicly apologised to her colleague, Mercy Johnson, as well as her children and family, over past misunderstandings and social media exchanges.
In a video shared on her Instagram page on Wednesday, Okorie thanked her fans for their support before turning her attention to Mercy Johnson and her family.
“Hi everybody, this is your one and only Legit Queen. I just want to say a very big thank you to all my fans around the world. I mean, I don’t know what I might have done for you guys to show me this massive love. I’m not a perfect being. Yes, I am not,” she said.
She then clarified the purpose of the video. “So this video is specifically for Mercy and her kids and her family.”
Reflecting on her growth and changing priorities, Okorie spoke about how rumours and third-party narratives may have fuelled past tensions between them.
“While we were growing in the industry, some people will come and tell me that Mercy said, some people will tell me that Angela said. There have been issues, quarrels, chaos, loggerheads, you know, and at this age, I don’t think this is what I want,” she said.
Okorie apologised directly to Mercy Johnson, particularly for past comments made on social media.
“I just want to apologise to you if it’s just my words, if it’s the words I have written anytime your name pops out on social media. I am deeply sorry. You are not a witch. You are not what people are calling you. This is just to say I am sorry.”
She also highlighted the importance of peace for the sake of their children.
“We don’t know where our kids will meet each other tomorrow. They might be best of friends… and we as mothers, we cannot stop them from being friends,” she said, condemning bullying targeted at Mercy Johnson’s children.
“I do not love the fact that they call Mercy’s kids names, which is bullying them in school and all that. If they do it to my child, I won’t take it.”
Okorie reiterated her plea for forgiveness.
“So this is to say I am sorry. Deeply sorry for everything. I love everybody. Like the Bible will say, make peace with all men. I am making peace with everybody. I don’t know who I might have offended. Please knowingly or unknowingly, biko.”
Describing herself as “not a troublesome person,” she added, “I am the sweetest soul you can ever meet. I am deeply sorry for everything I might have written or said against you. Mercy, this is a new beginning.”
She disclosed that both actresses had already spoken privately.
“Like when we spoke on the phone, you apologised to me, said you’re sorry, and I accepted you wholeheartedly,” she said.
Okorie concluded by praying for Mercy Johnson and expressing goodwill towards her.
“God in heaven knows that I don’t have anything against you. I love you, and I pray that God blesses you and lifts you higher wherever you are.”
The apology comes shortly after Okorie was arrested in Lagos by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department over allegations of cyberstalking, threats and harassment. She was later granted bail in the sum of N5 million.
