The Department of State Services (DSS) has summoned key kingmakers and nominees in the ongoing contest for the Awujale of Ijebuland stool, effectively taking over proceedings earlier scheduled to hold at the palace in Ijebu-Ode.
In a formal notice dated 21 January 2026, addressed to the Olórí Ẹbí of Fusengbuwa, the DSS announced the cancellation of a planned meet-and-greet that was to take place at the Aafin Awujale on Wednesday morning.
The letter, seen by The New Diplomat, was directed to three prominent figures involved in the succession process, including Otunba Lateef Owoyemi, Otunba Dokun Ajidagba, and Chief Prof. Fassy Yusuf.
According to the notice, all Awujale nominees are now required to report instead to the DSS office in Ijebu-Ode for an undisclosed engagement.
The venue of the summons was stated as the State Security Service (SSS) office along NTA Road, beside the State Psychiatric Hospital, off Igbeba Road, Ijebu-Ode.
While the DSS did not disclose the reason for the summons, the development has heightened tension around the traditional succession process, which has recently been marked by intense rivalry and heightened public interest.
