In a display of pomp and pageantry, King Charles III extended a high royal welcome to United States President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
The New Diplomat reports that the event was held at the iconic Windsor Castle.
It was gathered that the royal reception kicked off with Trump and Melania arriving via helicopter at the castle’s private Walled Garden, where they were greeted by Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales.
The royal couple then escorted the Trumps to meet King Charles III and Queen Camilla in a ceremonial procession that evoked the grandeur of Britain’s monarchical heritage.
Military bands played the U.S. and British national anthems as the group participated in a horse-drawn carriage ride through the estate, lined with soldiers, sailors, and aviators in scarlet tunics and bearskin hats.
Some 120 horses, and 1,300 members of the British military honoured Trump during a ceremonial guard of honour that UK officials called the largest for a state visit to Britain in living memory.
As the US president shook hands with the king, a 41-gun salute was fired simultaneously from six World War I-era guns on the castle’s east lawn.
Following the royal welcome, Trump and his wife headed to the tomb of Queen Elizabeth II to lay a wreath.
