Crystal Palace, on Sunday, August 10, 2025, defeated Liverpool on penalties to claim the 2025 Community Shield at Wembley Stadium, London, United Kingdom.

Crystal Palace, who made their first-ever appearance in the competition, overcame Liverpool, the 2024/25 Premier League champions, to secure their second major trophy in club history, following their FA Cup triumph earlier in the year.

The New Diplomat reports that the match began with Liverpool asserting early dominance, as new signing Hugo Ekitike found the net to give the Reds a lead.

However, Crystal Palace responded swiftly as Mateta converted a 17th-minute penalty to level the score.

The game remained tightly contested until Liverpool went ahead again after Jeremie Frimpong put the ball over Dean Henderson.

The first half ended with a scoreline of 2-1 in Liverpool’s favour.

However, Crystal Palace came out firing at the secind half and were rewarded after Sarr found the back of the net in the 77th minute.

The match ended 2-2, meaning a penalty shootout was needed to determine the winner of the 2025 Community Shield Trophy.

In the penalty shootout, Crystal Palace found the back of the net more than Liverpool, winning the Community Shield.
