The Minister of Communications, Innovations, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, is currently meeting with representatives of telecommunications companies to discuss ongoing pressures and talks on likely increase in telecom tariffs in Nigeria .
It was gathered that the Minister and the telcos representatives are currently in discussions regarding a potential increase in telecom tariffs.
This move comes in response to the telecom operators’ push for a tariff hike, which they argue is necessary due to economic pressures, including inflation, naira devaluation, and rising operational costs.
Recall that Telecom companies have expressed concerns that without a tariff increase, the sustainability of the industry could be at risk.
It was also gathered that representatives of major telecom companies such as MTN Nigeria, Airtel, Globacom, 9Mobile, and others were attending the meeting.
Also in attendance are major stakeholders and government regulatory agencies such as the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).
