Liverpool FC head coach, Jurgen Klopp, has said that lifting the Carabao Cup (EFL Cup) was the most special trophy he had ever won, following his club’s 1-0 victory over Chelsea on Sunday evening at Wembley.
Liverpool clinched their 10th EFL Cup courtesy of Virgil Van Dijk’s 118th-minute decisive header after a barren 90-minute draw.
Klopp, who gave a shocking announcement of leaving the club at the end of the season a few weeks ago, said he was not bothered about creating a legacy but more concerned about getting the job done as a football manager.
The 56-year-old former Borussia Dortmund coach said his eight-and-a-half years of achievement in Liverpool could not have been possible at another club.
As per the club’s performance after his exit, the German football manager expressed optimism that Liverpool would continue to be at its peak in England and Europe due to the quality of players who played their hearts out on Sunday.
He said, “Come on, this was so special. You saw the game, you saw the circumstances. We had problems before the game, they became bigger during the game. And then getting through all of this, you see tired players.
“I couldn’t care less about my legacy. I’m not here to create one. As a manager of a football club, you are there to do the job actually. Nothing what we did in the last eight-and-a-half years would have happened, it’s not replaceable, you couldn’t have done the same in another club or whatever.
“It’s not a problem if the manager leaves or whatever, if these people would leave – our supporters – that would be a problem. But as long as they are the way they are, Liverpool Football Club will be fine and that’s the most important thing. But for these kind of things from time to time you need something to really celebrate.”
Conor Bradley, speaking to Sky Sports, described Klopp as a special manager, adding that it was a dream come true to win a trophy with Liverpool at Wembley.
He said, “He’s such special manager, I just want to enjoy every moment with him now and win everything we can for him.
“I don’t think I can put it into words, I have supported this club since I was about five years old to win a trophy with them at Wembley it’s just special.”
