A former chairman of Sterling Bank, Barrister Asue Ighodalo has clinched the Edo state governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Ighodalo was declared as the official flagbearer of the PDP after the successful completion of the primary election contest which was held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin, Edo state.
Announcing the results, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara state, who is also the Chairman of the electoral committee, Edo PDP governorship primary election declared that Ighodalo polled 577 votes to defeat the deputy Governor of the state, Philip Shaibu; Mr Anslem Ojezua; Mr Felix Akhabue; Mr Martin Uhomoibhi;Â Hajia Hadizat Umoru; Mr Osaro Onaiwu and Mr Arthur Esene to clinch the gubernatorial ticket of the PDP for the September governorship election.
Earlier, Mr Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama and Ms Omosede Igbinedion had dropped out of the race,
Ighodalo, a Lagos-based lawyer and former chairman of Sterling Bank, is believed to be Governor Godwin Obaseki‘s preferred successor.
Ighodalo, in his acceptance speech appreciated the delegates of the party for deeming it fit to bestow him such an honour, promising that he will continue the success of Obaseki if elected as the governor of the state. He also promised the citizens of Edo state good governance and dividends of democracy.
