Muslims in Delta State have appealed to the State Governor, Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to carry them along in the affairs of the state.

The Delta State Muslims Stakeholders’ Association, DSMSA, who held an emergency meeting in Ovwian, Udu Local Government Area, recently, made the appeal in a communique issued at the end of the meeting.

According to them, the governor should not shut them out in the affairs of the state, clarifying that Delta State is not a singular religious state.

The communique presented to the media by Alhaji (Barr) Mumakai Unagha demanded representations just as they affirmed they have contributed and are still contributing to the development of the state.

According to the Association, “We want to congratulate Your Excellency for all the numerous victories you have achieved thus far.

“We are also very impressed with your approach to develop the state in line with your MORE programme and agenda.

“It is our prayer that Allah will continue to bless you with wisdom and knowledge to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.

“We also want to use this opportunity to let Your Excellency know that the Muslim community in the state has been very supportive of your programme.

“We therefore appeal to you sir, that you should carry us along. The indigenous Muslim community drawn from the 25 local government areas of the state are entitled to representations in the government for the sake of equity, fair and Justice.

“We are convinced that the governor will not close his ears to our appeal just as we wish to assure Your Excellency that our leaders and stakeholders are prepared to partner with you in the socio-economic and political development of the state.”

The meeting was well attended by representatives from the 25 local government areas of the state.
