  • Urges New Speaker To Complete Unfinished business Of 9th Assembly

By Charles Adingupu

The immediate past Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabimilia has hailed the emergence of Tajudeen Abass as Speaker of the 10th Assembly and applauded him for surpassing the votes he won during his own time.

Hon. Gbajabimilia who has been appointed Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, congratulated the newly elected Speaker for polling a massive vote of 352 out of the total 359 votes cast.

“I’m really surprised at the total votes Tajudeen Abass polled to defeat his opponents in what virtually all the Honourable members adjudged as a free, fair and transparent voice vote election. I didn’t have this large number of votes while vying for the Speakership of the Green Chambers,” he said.

Gbajabimilia urged the new Speaker to hit the ground running by first ensuring the unity of all members of the House irrespective of their religious, ethnic and political affiliations.

He advised the Speaker to endeavor to complete most of the unfinished business of the 9th Assembly such as the completion of the constitution amendments.

Gbajabimilia also enjoined Honourable Abass to break new grounds in legislative affairs that would help to catapult the nation into a new realm of all round growth and development.

He averred that this would only be achieved if there’s harmonious working relationship between the Executive and the Legislature.

Against this backdrop, Gbajabimilia implored the Speaker to ensure a cordial relationship between both arms of government for an even development across the country as well as for democracy to thrive.

He expressed optimism that the new Speaker, Abass with his accumulated wealth of experience in legislative process, would break new frontiers in legislative affairs.

He, however, solicited the cooperation of Honourable members of the House with their leader for speedy passage of bills.
