The Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, on Friday, said he will approach the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, to release the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mr Nnamdi Kanu, if the incumbent President, Muhammadu Buhari declines his appeal.
The Governor who said this at Channels Television’s Politics Today, stated that he is an advocate of the rule of law, and believes in the cause of Kanu.
Soludo made these arguments in his last letter seeking the release of Kanu, which he also copied President-elect.
He said, “This is a cause that one believes in. Consistently I am an advocate of the rule of law and justice for all and therefore if you look at that letter, that letter is copied to the President-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and I want to also believe that a copy has been delivered to his office as it were.
“The Attorney General is also copied in this letter and if President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration fails to take advantage of this opportunity to really rise above every other thing and be a statesman as it were, if the president fails to take advantage of that, we will be pursuing the same thing with the incoming administration.”
The Governor assured that the release of Kanu is for the sustainability of peace, security and development of the South-East region.
He, however, decried the Monday sit-at-home order in the South-East, which he claimed Kanu’s supporters introduced as a way to press for his release.
Soludo expressed optimism that the eventual release of the IPOB leader will guarantee lasting peace in the South East region.
“Against this backdrop, I promised to stand as surety for the embattled IPOB leader,” he said.
